MEFIRS Updates November 3rd, 2025
Scene (eScene.10) and Destination facilities (eDisposition.01)
Facilities play a key role within MEFIRS. Not only do they allow tracking the number of transports to and from the various facilities, but they also enable the data exchange that occurs between MEFIRS, hospitals and downstream providers. For this to function properly it is vital that the facilities be selected from the list of facilities. Only the facilities in the list contain the configuration values that allow the health care providers at a receiving facility to view a patient’s patient care report they have received, and to be able to do so as soon as the destination facility has been saved to MEFIRS within your patient care report.
For this reason, we are making several updates to the way facilities are selected and entered in MEFIRS and hope that this will make selecting the correct facility easier for those completing a patient care report.
- We have enabled a facility type of Airport/Landing Zone to allow filtering for pickups and drop-offs at airports.
- On November 3rd, 2025, we will enable a visibility rule that will hide scene facilities (eScene.10) that are not hospital type facilities in the list when the Incident Location Type (eScene.09) is not Hospital. This means that when you select Hospital in the Incident Location Type Field on the Incident Address panel the list of facilities will only contain hospitals.

eDisposition.11 - Number of Patients Transported in this EMS Unit
Currently, validation rule 164 requires the Number of Patients Transported in this EMS Unit (eDisposition .11) field to be greater than 0 (not blank) when the Patient Arrived at Destination Date/Time (eTimes .11) field contains a date/time.
This rule will be updated to require the Number of Patients Transported in this EMS Unit (eDisposition .11) to be greater than 0 (not blank) when the Transport Disposition (eDisposition.30) is either 4230001 -Transport by This EMS Unit (This Crew Only) OR 4230003 - Transport by This EMS Unit, with a Member of Another Crew
APGAR Score Validation Rule Update
Validation rule 918 will flag the APGAR (eVitals.32) field as Red and deduct 5 validation points when:
- The APGAR (eVitals.32) field is blank
- And Age Units (ePatient.16) is Minutes or Hours
- And Unit Notified by dispatch date time (eTimes.03) >1-1-2018
- And EMS Agency Number (eResponse.01) is not 0807 (LifeFlight of Maine)
EMS clinicians are changing the age units to 1 day to avoid the validation trigger on interfacility transfers, and several agencies have asked that the validation rule be modified to improve data quality.
Validation rule 918 will be replaced with a new validation rule (3729) that will flag the APGAR (eVitals.32) field as Red and deduct 5 validation points when:
- The APGAR (eVitals.32) field is blank

Updates pertaining to Agencies
Updates pertaining to Address elements within PCR
Currently, address elements appear in several places on the incident form:
- Dispatch > Incident Address
- Arrival > Patient Residence
- Arrival > Other Patient Residence
- Arrival > Patient Closest Relative
- Transport > Destination Address
- Narrative > Hospital Outcome
While several of these include data elements not available in the others, there is a difference between them in the order of fields displayed. These panels will be updated to ensure the order of address elements remains consistent.
