MEFIRS Updates September 2, 2025
There will be several changes implemented to MEFIRS on September 2, 2025:
- The Estimated Body Weight in Kilograms (eExam.01) and Length Based Tape Measure (eExam.02) will be moved from the Patient Information panel under the Arrival section to the Patient History Panel under the Assessment section. The label for Estimated Body Weight in Kilograms will also be changed to Estimated Body Weight.
- The address information is moving from the Arrival section Patient Information Panel to a new panel named Patient Residence. Additionally, a new panel will be added, named Other Patient Residence, having alternate address fields.
Currently, clinicians can capture a single patient's home address using data elements on the Arrival section's Patient Information Panel.
This was requested to allow for capturing an alternate home address if the patient has more than one residence, such as for extended visits, seasonal residency, migrant workers, extended stay contractors, etc.
-
MaineHealth has completed its rebranding, and the remaining facilities in MEFIRS that have not been updated will now be updated to their new name.
Facilities having names changed:

* MEMORIAL HOSPITAL (The) (NH) will become MaineHealth Memorial Hospital
* MID COAST HOSPITAL will become MaineHealth Mid Coast Hospital
* PEN BAY MEDICAL CENTER will become MaineHealth Pen Bay Hospital
* WALDO COUNTY GENERAL HOSPITAL will become MaineHealth Waldo Hospital

Maine EMS attempts to keep current all Assisted Living Facilities, Clinics, Dialysis Centers, Free Standing Emergency Rooms, Hospitals, Independent Living Facilities, Mental Health Facilities, Nursing Homes, Jails, Prisons, Rehabilitation Facilities, and Urgent Care Facilities EMS agencies respond to. If there is a facility that is missing or needs updating, please email EMS.Data@Maine.gov and include the facility's name, address, the type of facility, whether it is a pickup, drop-off, or both pickup and drop-off facility, latitude, and longitude.
Managing the facilities is important as it allows the EMS patient care reports to be accessed by the sending and receiving facilities, provided the facility identifier matches what is configured in the hospital user interface. This would include facilities where the patient was subsequently transported to another facility, provided the patient’s name, date of birth, and gender are accurate and identical.
Lastly, we will be continuing our effort to reduce the number of facilities available when completing the PCR based on what is entered into the Type of Service Requested Field. As an example; when the Type of service requested is Emergency Response (Primary Response Area), Emergency Response (Mutual Aid), or Emergency Response (Intercept) and the Transport Disposition (eDisposition.30) is either Transport by This EMS Unit (This Crew Only) (4230001) or Transport by This EMS Unit, with a Member of Another Crew (4230003) then the destination facilities available to select from will only include Hospitals and Free Standing Emergency Departments. Similarly, the Type of Service of Hospital-to-Hospital Transfer will only have Hospitals available in both the origin and destination facilities selection lists.
