Fine Tuning Facilities For Your Agency

Facilities play an important role within the EMS data ecosystem. To maintain data integrity and prevent errors in data exchange that could prevent subsequent healthcare providers from accessing EMS patient care reports, Maine EMS maintains the list of facilities in MEFIRS. However, members of one of the EMS Agency Admin permissions groups can fine-tune the facilities, marking them as active or inactive for use by their own agency and setting a sort order for the agency's users when entering data.

To modify the facilities for your agency, start by clicking the Resource button on the button bar at the top of the MEFIRS screen and then clicking the "Facilities" link.

This will display a screen similar to the one below, which, by default, lists all active facilities in the system.

Showing or hiding Facilities.

For each facility in the list, you are able to designate whether the facility is considered Active or Inactive for your agency. You can filter the list by clicking the Funnel button in the upper right corner to filter for Active facilities, Inactive Facilities, and whether the facility is a pickup location, a drop-off location, or both a pickup and a drop-off location.

  • Active - To set a facility as active, select the facility in the list and click the Activate button above the list.
    • The Activate button will only be enabled if the facility is inactive
    • Facilities marked as active by your agency and with a system status of active will be available in the selection lists for users to enter data.
  • Inactive- To set a facility as inactive, select the facility in the list and click the Inactive button above the list.
    • The Inactive button will only be enabled if the facility is active
    • Inactive facilities, either marked as such by your agency or with a system status of inactive, are not available for selection on incidents or visits. However, inactive facilities remain visible on previously documented incidents or visits and are reportable in Report Writer

There may also be visibility rules in place for facilities that prevent users from viewing them. As an example, there is a visibility rule that limits the values in a list of facilities to only those of a Hospital Type when the Type of Service Requested (eResponse.05) is Hospital-to-Hospital Transfer (2205005). Visibility rules such as these are managed by Maine EMS.

Setting The Sort Order Of Facilities.

To set the sort order of the facilities for users of your agency, enter a numeric value in the Order column of the facilities list. The value you enter will be used to sort the facilities during data entry.

Adding New Facilities Or Updating Existing Facilities.

If you discover that a facility does not exist and needs to be added, a facility exists that is no longer active, or the information about a facility is in need of updating, please use our Maine EMS Facility Request Form to request that we update the information within the system
