Program Rules
Learners may NOT:
- Perform any patient care, including checking vitals or moving a loaded stretcher.
- This would be unlicensed practice, which can have severe consequences for Learners, Mentors, other licensed individuals on scene, and the service.
- Be first on scene.
- Be left alone with a patient. This would be patient abandonment.
- Operate an emergency or service-owned vehicle at any time, even without lights and siren.
- Operate a personal vehicle with red lights activated.
- Participate in patient extrication.
- Perform traffic control.
Service members may NOT:
- Have romantic or sexual relationships with Learners.
- No dating Learners. Do not make romantic advances, sexual advances, sexual comments, or sexual requests of Learners.
- Harass, bully, or discriminate against Learners.
- Harassment, bullying, grooming, assault, quid-pro-quo, favors, and discrimination are not tolerated and will be investigated and disciplined appropriately.
- Initiate or accept personal social media connections such as friend requests with Learners.
- Meet up with Learners off-duty. Ensure all activities are coordinated through the service and/or school.
Safety Tips:
- When interacting with Learners, ensure there are always at least two Learners, or at least two service members/Mentors present. Do not be alone with one Learner.
- If you have to have a one-on-one meeting, keep the door open and make sure someone knows when and where you’re meeting.
- Communicate with Learners using a group chat or email. Avoid one-on-one digital communications like text messages, DMs, and PMs with Learners.
